Red Deer, AB - A single bucket was the difference between the Red Deer College Kings and Briercrest College Clippers on Friday evening. The Kings led 43-38 at the half, but a 47 point second half brought the visitors within striking distance. As time ticked down, the RDC Kings scored the game-winning field goal, sealing an 87-85 win.
The Kings outscored the Clippers 24-13 during the first quarter and held a five point edge (43-38) at the break.
Tyronn King and Spencer Klassen had nine points each for RDC. Briercrest College's Brandon Tolentino led both teams with 11.
Briercrest College had a strong latter half, outscoring the Kings by three (47-44) but it wasn't quite enough. The Red Deer College Kings picked up an 87-85 home win.
The Kings had the edge on the boards (44-38).
The RDC Kings connected on 44 per cent of their shots from the field. The Briercrest College Clippers were 46.3 per cent successful.
Tyronn King was named the Collegiate Sports Medicine Kings Player of the Game. The RDC Legal Assistant student racked up 21 points, six rebounds, six steals and five assists. Brandon Tolentino was recognized as the Clippers top performer, totaling 22 points, eight rebounds and four assists.
On Saturday, the Kings (4-3) will face the Clippers (2-4) at 3:00 p.m. at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre in a rematch.
