Vikings lose against Huskies

The Augustana Vikings face off against the Keyano Huskies for the last home game of the season. Both teams determined to give it their all, came out strong and ready. The first quarter ended with a tied score of 22-22. 

 

The second quarter continued with motivation and hard work from the first. There were back to back baskets scored. Great defence from both the Vikings and the Huskies. The score was 49-47 with less than 10 seconds left, and Vikings were unable to score at their last attempt. The halftime time finished with a score of 49-47. 

 

Coming back early from the halftime break the Vikings and Huskies shoot around to maintain their momentum of the last quarter. Huskies #10 Dejon Davis scores a three-pointer bringing his time ahead. Huskies #21 Stefan Jovic scores a contested layup. Vikings work to keep up with the fast pace of the game. With the score 54-57, the Vikings need every basket they can. Vikings #10 Josh Lawal makes several back to back defensive rebounds. Great teamwork led to Vikings #13 Elijah Schmuland making an uncontested layup. With less than five minutes remaining in the third quarter, the score remains with a gap of 3 points. Vikings #11 Nicholas Harder makes a contested power layup in an effort to help his team close the gap. Vikings #21 Nathan Bowie makes the score 62-61 for his team with a contested layup that had the potential to be blocked. Huskies #6 Angelo Mbituyimana makes a fast break layup. The Vikings bench chants defence as the Huskies are in their end and cheer when Vikings #13 Elijah Schmuland gets the rebound. Another contested layup scored leading to a foul shot for Vikings #11 Nicholas Harder. Huskies #21 Stefan Jovic makes a contested layup leading to a foul shot tying the game up 65-65. The score turns to 66-65 when #21 makes the free throw. The final score for the third quarter is 70-68 for the Vikings. 

 

The tension is just as high, if not higher as the fourth quarter starts. The fans eagerly await to see the outcome of this high-stress game. For the first four minutes of the fourth quarter, there are back to back baskets with the score staying within the three-point gap. With a game score of 79-77 the Head Coach of Huskies. Jeremy Wielenga calls a timeout. Back to back baskets continue as the Vikings try their best to come out on top. The score is 81-88 with less than thirty seconds left and it is tough to see if Vikings will come out on top. A great play and a better basket from #9 Michael Stasuik. Despite the Vikings best effort, the game ended with a score of 90-84 for the Huskies. 

 

Player of the Game was awarded to the visiting Keyano Huskies #10 Dejon Davis and the hometown Augustana Vikings #7 Brulotte.
