Jeremy Wielenga Named ACAC 2019-20 Men’s North Basketball Coach of the Year

Camrose, AB (March 4, 2020) – The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is proud to announce Jeremy Wielenga of the Keyano College Huskies has been named the ACAC Men's North Basketball Coach of the Year.

Coach Jeremy Wielenga a native of Brandon Manitoba joined the Keyano College Huskies in the 2017/2018 season. Over the past three seasons, Huskies Athletics has had the pleasure of witnessing the tremendous growth of our Men's Basketball Program under the leadership of Wielenga as each year the program becomes more competitive.

His impressive resume includes three assistant coaching stints at the U-Sport level with Brandon University Bobcats of the Canada West Conference (2010 – 2014), Lakehead University Thunderwolves (2014 – 2015) of the Ontario University Athletics, University of Winnipeg Wesmen of the Canada West Conference (2016 – 2017). Not to mention the list of mentors that Wielenga credits for his development as a coach which include the likes of legendary coaches Ken Shields (University of Victoria Vikes 1978 – 1989) and Jerry Hemmings (Brandon University Bobcats 1974 – 2003) with countless others who have influenced his coaching career.

"Coach Wielenga has raised the bar within Huskies Athletics during his time at Keyano College. He has created a Men's Basketball program that is among the most competitive in the ACAC. His passion, work ethic and attention to detail is something that is admired within the ACAC coaching circle. Under the guidance of Coach Wielenga the Huskies boast a number of records within Keyano College including most wins in a single season (22); most wins by a Men's Basketball Coach (53); longest Men's Basketball winning streak in a season (14). Huskies Athletics is proud of what Coach Wielenga has accomplished so far in his coaching career and we look forward to seeing greater things in the future." - Jonathan Lambert Athletics Director Huskies Athletics.

Currently, the Huskies sit 5th in the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association Men's Basketball Rankings with a 22 – 2 record as the number one seed in the ACAC North. 

Jeremy Wielenga received the award on March 4, 2020, at the ACAC Men's Basketball Conference Championship Banquet held in Camrose, AB.
