CALGARY, ALTA., (Feb. 16, 2022) - Emotions were riding high Wednesday night at SAIT Campus Centre.

The SAIT Trojans men's basketball team hosted the St. Mary's University Lightning on an evening where they honoured former Trojans star John Smith and officially annouced the creation of an endowment in his name. The Trojans came out on top in the contest, needing overtime to defeat their guests 85-83.

SAIT moves to 12-2 on the year, while St. Mary's falls to 7-7.

The game also saw Charlie Conner become the new all-time points leader in SAIT Trojans men's basketball history, scoring 13 points to surpass Ted Leslie's 35-year-old mark of 1,166 points. Leslie was in attendance, and congratulated Conner after the game while posing for photos.

Caleb Jipp paced the Lightning with 23 points.

Conner was named his team's Player of the Game, while Averie Armbrister, who hit a three-point shot at the buzzer to tie the game and send it into overtime, was the Player of the Game for the Lightning.
