Men's Basketball Huskies edge Kodiaks in battle of division leaders
The Keyano Huskies Men's Basketball team kept their perfect season intact Friday night at the Syncrude Sport & Wellness Centre in Fort McMurray, Alta., topping the visiting Lethbridge College Kodiaks 82-75.
Sean-Michael Clancey scored 40 points to lead both side of the scoretable, adding seven rebounds, four assists, and four steals to his final stat line.
The Huskies shot 40.7 percent from the field (22-for-54), making 10 three-point shots. They also sank 28 of 35 free throws in the contest. DJ Haynes was the only other Huskies player to reach double digits on the day, scoring 10 points.
Christopher Schlauwitz led the Kodiaks with 11 points, one ahead of teammates Paycen Blackmore and Mason Hoffman, who rounded out the trio of double-digit scorers.
The Kodiaks opened up the game with a five-point lead on the Huskies, with the home side rallying back to trail by one at the half. The high-octane offensive play continued in the third quarter with the Huskies regaining the lead heading into the final quarter.
In the final frame, the Kodiaks charged back to take the lead while the Huskies struggled to sink baskets. The top team in the North regained their form however and chipped away at the lead, led by an 18-point performance in the fourth quarter from Clancey.
The Kodiaks shot 56.1 percent (32-for-57) from the field, including three three-point shots. They also made eight free throws.
Earning Player of the Game honours for their respective sides were Hoffman and Clancey.
