Thunder route Briercrest in Consolation Semifinal

Day 2 of the ACAC Men's Basketball Championship started off with the consolation semifinal matchup of the Briercrest Clippers (14-7) and the Concordia Thunder (8-12). Both teams were looking to rebound after losing in the quarterfinals a day ago.

From the opening tip off, the Thunder were the more energetic team, pushing the pace and scoring in transition. Bolstered by a pair fo late three-pointers from All-Conference selection Keellaa Gatwech, Concordia led 35-16 after 10 minutes of play.

In the second quarter, the Thunder maintained their lead, resulting in the Clippers beginning to go deeper into their bench. Malik Edwards was able to contribute heavily on the offensive side, scoring multiple layups and Concordia was up 58-35 at the half.

Initially, the Thunder continued to increase their lead, but Briercerest finally found some life late in the third quarter. A burst of baskets from Markus Glasspell helped trim the lead and it was 78-58 heading into the fourth. There, the Thunder found more separation, winning 116-83.

Gatwech was Player of the Game, leading all scorers with 29 points, along with 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals. Glasspell led the Clippers with 28 points.

Briercrest's season is over, while the Thunder have one more contest on Saturday, where they will face the winner of NAIT and Ambrose. Tip off is 1:00 pm.
