Ooks outduel Lions to advance to 5th place game

The second consolation game of the day was played by NAIT (13-7) and Ambrose (12-9). Each team showed their best efforts, displaying excellent teamwork and communication skills, despite being on the other side of the draw..

The NAIT Ooks started the game off right with an and-1 by Kohl Wedman. In return, Ambrose picked up the pace with rapid passes and strong defense. Patrick Fisher shot a 3 to lengthen the Ooks early lead and was followed shortly after by another clean 3–point by   Nathan Saldo. Ambrose defended against NAIT's efforts continuously but was unable to get many shots to drop on the offensive end.  The Lions' James Censon and Japheth David put up beautiful 3's, but Kohl Wedman and Patrick Fisher of the Ooks continued to push on, lengthening their lead to 25-12 going into the 2nd quarter.

The Ambrose Lions charged into the next quarter with aggression, drawing fouls as well as playing quality defense. The Ooks kept their cool, continuing to make smart plays and play good basketball. The Lions' James Censon threw up a powerful 3-point to bring their team points to 23 and Guilherme Lacerda Ferreira rebounded continuously, assisting his team's defense greatly. Both teams battled it out, heading into the second half with NAIT leading with a score of 43-33 for Ambrose.

The back and forth continued, with both teams excelling at passing as well as finding open spaces on the court. Ambrose picked up speed, rapidly closing the 10-point gap. Donovan Caldwell and Patrick Fisher of the Ooks retaliated against the Lions' attack, scoring 3's back-to-back. Ambrose stayed unfazed, continuing to score tough baskets against the Ooks strong defense. The Ooks ended the 3rd quarter with an And 1 by Caldwell to lengthen their lead once again.

NAIT opened the final quarter with strong defense, but the Lions persevered, gaining speed and scoring big points. Fisher pulled down big boards for the Ooks, helping his team on both ends of the court. Battling it out, Ambrose continued to showcase their perseverance and pressure NAIT's players with force. Although both teams showed great athleticism and strong court awareness, the NAIT Ooks pulled out the win 83-72 against Ambrose. The Players of The Game were presented to Patrick Fisher of NAIT and Jarom Walton.

The Lions will head home and the Ooks will play Concordia on Saturday, March 7th at 1 p.m.
