Trojans have to settle for tie

CALGARY, ALTA., (Dec. 3, 2021) - It's not like the SAIT Trojans men's hockey team did not have their chances.

The Trojans fired 58 shots on net, but could only score twice as they battled to a 2-2 draw with the Concordia University of Edmonton Thunder in Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) action played Friday night at SAIT Arena.

SAIT closes out the first semester of play with a 3-0-0-1 record. Concordia moves to 2-0-0-1.

The Trojans opened the scoring in the first period when Liam Freeborn was sprung on a breakaway, beating Thunder goalie Griffin Bowerman.

The score stayed that way until the second period when SAIT was given a lengthy 5-on-3 powerplay. Instead of scoring on it, they allowed a short-handed goal up one man when Rory Davidson picked up a loose puck and fired it past Trojans goalie Braedon Fleming to tie things.

Concordia scored on a powerplay of their own nearly eight minutes later off the stick of Keegan Tiringer to put the visitors up 2-1 after 40 minutes of play.

The Trojans were able to tie things late in the final period when Tanner Klassen found the back of the net.

Two overtime periods solved nothing.

Bowerman and Klassen were named Players of the Game.
