NAIT Ooks Defeat the Portage Voyageurs

The NAIT Ooks took on the Portage Voyageurs Saturday night in their first home game of the second semester. This match-up was the second game of a doubleheader. The NAIT Ooks won 3-1 on Friday night in Portage, so both teams were ready to get going tonight. NAIT won the Saturday night match-up 8-2.

The NAIT Ooks came out the door flying in the first. NAIT Ooks forward Ethan McIndoe scored at the eleven-minute mark to put the Ooks on the board. The Voyageurs were not backing down from the fight though, a great play from their forward line got the puck up the ice, it was a great chance, but NAIT Ooks Goaltender Taryn Kotchorek was there to close the door. The NAIT Ooks returned with an offensive rush, and Colby Livingstone scored to put the Ooks ahead 2-0.


The Ooks kept the pressure on going ahead by three late in the first, thanks to a goal from ACAC top scorer Jared Legien.


3-0 for the Ooks at the intermission.


Both teams came out ready to roll in the second. The NAIT Ooks capitalized on an early chance by Shane Fraser. The Ooks were ahead 4-0. Shots were 20-6 five minutes into the second period for the NAIT Ooks.


The Ooks didn't take their pedal off the gas as Legien scored another one and helped his team gain a five-goal lead.


The Voyageurs came back with a quick response from Jordan Picard. Portage was not going down without a fight. Voyageurs player Kona Jackson scored a couple of minutes later to shrink the Ooks lead by another. 5-2 NAIT Ooks. The NAIT Ooks responded with another quick goal by Dylan Stewart to bring them back to a four-goal lead.


One last late attempt by the NAIT Ooks was a success; McIndoe got his second of the game assisted by Tyler Robertson.


7-2 for the NAIT Ooks at the second intermission.


The NAIT Ooks scored an early goal in third by McIndoe. The NAIT Ooks forward got a hat trick on the night.


Despite being down, the Voyageurs kept putting the pressure on, keeping them in the game. There was a gap in the score, but Portage came back to close the shot gap, 32-31 Portage.


Both teams are back in action next weekend.
