Trojans allow three power play goals in OT loss

CALGARY, ALTA., (Feb. 18, 2022) - Even-strength, the game belonged to the SAIT Trojans. Special teams, not so much.

The Trojans men's hockey team gave up a 2-0 lead and allowed three straight power play goals as they fell 3-2 in overtime to the visiting Red Deer Polytechnic Kings in their Friday night Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) game played inside SAIT Arena.

SAIT falls to 6-5-1-1 on the year, while Red Deer jumps to 7-3-2-1.

The Trojans dominated the first two periods, firing shot after shot at Kings goalie Arik Weersink, who did great to only allow two - one to Carson Welke in the first and another to Dylan Williamson in the second.

The third period saw the Kings push back a little more, and they were rewarded for their effort by drawing two penalties that resulted in pucks slipping past Trojans netminder Trevor Martin - the first by Jacob Kendall and the second by Hayden Clayton.

Kendall iced the win with 47 second left in the extra period to leave SAIT with just the one point earned.

Weersink and SAIT's Chase Felguieras were named the Players of the Game.
