EDMONTON, AB (March 19, 2022) – The Concordia University of Edmonton (CUE) Thunder welcomed the NAIT Ooks Saturday night in game two of the 2022 ACAC Men's Hockey Championships. Already up 1-0 after a big win Friday night, the Ooks used a strong second period to power themselves past the Thunder 7-2 and take a 2-0 series lead.
NAIT came out of the gate rolling, as #4 Bjorn Robinson went in on a breakaway less than 30 seconds into the game and gave the Ooks an early 1-0 lead. The Thunder were able to settle in after that, and found an equalizing goal five minutes later as #18 Peter Tomaras leveled things at 1-1. NAIT was able to add another late in the first from Eric Lacombe as they took a 2-1 lead into the second intermission. Concordia started the second period shorthanded, but that didn't stop them from finding an equalizer, as #2 Scott Allan buried a shorthanded goal to tie the game up again, this time at 2-2. After that, however, was all NAIT, as they scored three more goals in the second period, including two powerplay markers, to put themselves up 5-2 after two. The Ooks were able to maintain control through the third period as well, as Concordia couldn't break through and chip away at the lead. NAIT went on to add two more in the period to make it a 7-2 scoreline – which would stand as the final score.
The One Team Sport Players of the Game were #18 Ethan McIndoe for the Ooks, and #10 Curtis Peck for the Thunder.
Game three is set to go next Friday at NAIT, giving both teams a much needed break. The Ooks wil be looking to close out the series at home, while the Thunder will look to stay alive in their pursuit of a conference title. Puck drop for game three is 7:00 pm, with the game being live streamed on ACACTV.ca for anyone that can't make it.
