Kings score four unanswered enroute to a victory against the Thunder

Red Deer, November 25 - The Red Deer Polytechnic are coming off a very high scoring game against the NAIT Ooks that saw forward Jacob Kendall score five points. But they were going to have their hands full tonight with the Concordia University Thunder, who are a very fast team. Last week, the Thunder finished off with three points against a very tough University of Alberta-Augustana Vikings.

The visiting Thunder would open up the scoring eight minutes into the game. After the Kings iced the puck, the Concordia offense put on a great forecheck which led to a turnover to Keegan Tiringer in front of the net, who would wrist the puck top shelf past goaltender Kristian Lyon (Business Administration) to take the early lead.

But RDP would come right back minutes later. The Kings would break out on a two-on-one after losing the faceoff in their own end and would tie the game. Pressure from Ryland McNinch on the blue line (Bachelor of Education) ultimately ended in the turnover in the Kings zone who would skate alongside linemate Jacob Kendall. Kendall would place it into the wide-open net for his 11th goal of the season after McNinch sent a pass across to the Camrose-native fooling Thunders goaltender Eric Ward.

The Kings would make it two straight goals after a giveaway by the goaltender from Concordia in the corner to Reegan Doig (Open Studies). Doig would throw out in front to forward Chase Haygarth (Business Administration), who would spin around and wrist it past the diving goaltender trying to make the desperation save.

At the end of the first period, the shots were in favour of the Kings with 15 and the Thunder managed to get 13 on net.

The Kings would open up the second period scoring after another odd man rush led to a Red Deer goal. This time it was forward Hayden Clayton (Open Studies) who was sent a pass all the way from his own zone. Clayton would slide it over to captain Chance Longjohn who would put his team up 3-1 with a wrist shot in the slot.

Red Deer would continue their pressure on the Thunder with a goal from Dylan Esau (Business Diploma), who would trickle a shot from the high slot past Tiringer to extend their lead to three.

At the end of 40, the Kings would continue to outshoot their opponent 28-22.

The third period would go scoreless and the Kings walked away with a 4-1 victor over the Thunder.

The players of the game went to Keegan Tiringer, who scored the only goal for the Thunder, and Chance Longjohn who scored the third goal of the game for the Kings.

These two teams will face off tomorrow at 7 pm in Edmonton.
