Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference "To be Canada's premiere collegiate athletic conference by developing and inspiring leadership through excellence in academics, sport and citizenship"

November 23, 2024

After a 5-3 victory over the Red Deer Kings, the Briercrest Clippers went into game 2 skating even harder. Starting the first period off with a couple of hits and some blocked shots, Josh Morton and Brandon Kelly were solid in the defensive zone. While most of the period was spent in the Kings end, Dominic Tmej made saves on every shot, and stopped a key breakaway chance. The Clippers left to the dressing room, 0-0.
Coming out into the second period with speed and agility, Keagon Little and Zach Thususka took advantage of a 2-on-1 rush, and Thususka put it past the Kings netminder for a 1-0 lead. This started the train of goals, with Jacob Arsenault scoring a shorthanded goal his second of the series, followed by Lucas Lapalm, and Jake Dale scoring his third of the series at the end of the period for a 4-0 lead.
The Clippers went into the third period with a lead, but Red Deer scored two goals, Nolan Doell and Kevin Minnoch being the scorers. It wouldn't be enough as the Clippers closed out the 4-2 victory.
"We just played a team game- simple as that," remarked Zach Thususka after the win. "We all stuck together, did our jobs, and it went the right way."
Briercrest solidifies their hold on second place in league standings with the weekend sweep, and will have a shot at overtaking SAIT for first next weekend as they close out the first half of the season on the road.
Players of the game were Evan Fredette for Red Deer and Dominik Tmej for Briercrest.
