Red Deer Polytechnic Kings Secure Semi-Final Spot with Dominant Performance Over Keyano Huskies
Lloydminster, AB - The first playoff match of the tournament on the men's side saw the RDP Kings taking on the Keyano Huskies.
From the start, it was clear the Kings were bringing their A-game. Just three minutes in, RDP goalkeeper Brian Murray made an incredible save to keep Keyano off the scoreboard, setting the tone for the match. The Kings' aggressive play and fluid ball movement were evident, and at 20:13, #10 Grant Johnson slotted the ball into the corner to give RDP an early lead.
As the game progressed, RDP's offensive prowess shone through. In the 14th minute, a brilliant assist from Ajdin Sarcevic set up Jaxon Fernandes for another goal, bringing the score to 2-0 in the first 11 minutes of play. Keyano struggled to break through RDP's high-pressure defense, with Skipper Martin and Ibukunoluwa Oyawale shutting down the Huskies' attacks, including a massive block by Martin to stop a breakaway. Just before the break, Grant Johnson added another goal, bringing the halftime score to 4-0 in favor of the Kings.
Keyano made a goalie change at the start of the second half, but it didn't deter RDP's momentum. Early into the second half, Korben Skjolde scored to give the Kings a commanding 5-0 lead. The goals kept coming for RDP, with Fernandes connecting on a brilliant no-look pass from Skjolde, resulting in yet another goal.
Keyano tried to fight back with a late goal by #9 Kofi Boateng in the 6th minute of the second half, but it was too little, too late. RDP maintained their dominance, and #10 Grant Johnson scored one final goal with just 29 seconds remaining, sealing the 8-1 victory.
Brian Murray earned Player of the Game honors for his numerous saves, and Cleisson Anklam was named Player of the Game for the Huskies.
