Huskies bounce back with win over Broncos
Lloydminster, AB - In the final game of day one at the ACAC Men's and Women's Futsal Championships, the Keyano Huskies faced the Olds Broncos. The Huskies were looking to respond after getting blown out by the Medicine Hat Rattlers while the Broncos were making their tournament debut.
Just 50 seconds into the game, Olds struck first when Simon Puddicombe found the back of the net off a well-placed inbounds pass. The Huskies quickly responded with aggressive play but were cautioned with a yellow card after a collision with the Olds goalkeeper. Olds played stout defense in the opening stages, making it difficult for the Huskies to build any momentum. Keyano's first real chance came in the form of a header attempt, which sailed just over the bar.
At the 21-minute mark, the Huskies equalized as Mykita Kudrin scored to make it 1-1. Then, a late attempt from Olds off a corner kick was well handled by the Keyano keeper. The first half ended with Keyano leading 3-1.
Keyano started the second half with the kickoff, and despite an early turnover that led to a shot attempt that missed to the left, they maintained their composure. Olds responded quickly, getting on the scoreboard with a goal off the left post that found the back of the net, narrowing the lead to 3-2.
As the game progressed, Keyano's defense remained smothering, blocking several key shots from Olds. At the 46-second mark, after a relentless defensive stand, Keyano managed to secure their fourth goal, extending their lead to 4-2.
Riley Peet and Simon Puddicombe were the Players of the game for the Huskies and the Broncos.
