The Lakeland Rustlers defeated the Olds College Broncos 2-1 Saturday afternoon in Lloydminster.
The Broncos would open the scoring in the 3rd minute, with a goal by Fabian Gromenida, giving them the early lead. Both goalkeepers played well for their teams early on, making some big saves, until Broncos goalkeeper Ryan Murphy left the game with a lower leg injury. After the early goal by the Broncos, neither team scored in the first half, giving the Broncos the 1-0 lead at half.
In the second half, the Rustlers took advantage of the Broncos errors to tie the score at one in the 53rd minute on a goal by Mackenzie Longpre. Just minutes later, Rustlers Josh Hatzenbuuhler would score, giving Lakeland the 2-0 lead. The Broncos had scoring opportunities in the second half, but Rustlers goalkeeper Zach Wagner came up with some big saves for his team, helping them secure the 2-1 win.
