OLDS, Alta. - In a physical, tightly-contested affair, a late marker from Ashton Chipman grabbed a point for the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings in a 1-1 draw with the Olds College Broncos at Richardson Pioneer Field on Saturday.

Valentin Kirchner scored for the Broncos (1-1-3), while Joao Vitor Duz Batista made four saves. Meanwhile, Jared St. Thomas was busy in goal for the Kings (2-1-2), making nine saves to earn Player of the Game honours; Dimitri Bouzy was the Broncos' Player of the Game.

The first half was fairly even, with the Broncos having more threatening opportunities while being unable to capitalize as the teams went into halftime scoreless.

From there, play got even tighter until Jacob Duyvesteyn was taken down in the box in the 63rd minute, leading to a penalty conversion from Kirchner to put the Broncos up 1-0.

Olds College had opportunities to extend the lead, but St. Thomas was solid in goal for the Kings to keep his side in the match, and his efforts were rewarded in the 86th minute, as Chipman took a pass off a set piece from Jaeden Swartz to beat Batista from about 30 yards.

The Broncos will wrap up the home portion of their regular season next weekend as they battle the Medicine Hat College Rattlers on Oct. 8 at 4 p.m., followed by a matchup with the Lethbridge College Kodiaks on Oct. 9 at 2 p.m.

Meanwhile, the Kings head south to battle the SAIT Trojans (5-0-0) tomorrow at 2 p.m. in Calgary.
