MVB | Kodiaks Seek Redemption Against Kings

October 28, 2017 – The Kodiaks were back in action today with a rematch against the RDC Kings after falling to them last night in five sets. 

Seeking out redemption for the previous game, the Kodiaks came out battling. Kodiaks Carter Hansen was ready to show off his versatility on the court with a strong presence at the net as well as behind the service line. The Kings fought back to overtake the Kodiaks in the final points of the set for a suspenseful 25-20 win aided by Mark DeWit's five kills.

The second set started out tight with the teams fighting point-for-point but the Kodiaks pulled ahead midway through the set with an impressive performance from the team as a whole at the net. The Kodiaks took the second set 25-15 with five kills from Hansen, and four from Tony Albizzati to tie up the game at 1-1.

The Kings started out the third set playing cautious and the Kodiaks took advantage to gain an early lead. Tony Albizzati continue to show off his abilities at the net as well as defensively with three digs. The Kings libero Isaiah Stime was kept on his toes with eight digs but the Kings fell to the Kodiaks 25-16 to give the Kodiaks a 2-1 lead. 

Not ready to go out without a fight, the Kings took control of the fourth set early, but the Kodiaks trailed close behind. Kodiaks captain, Dax Whitehead, supported his team at the net with __ kills, while Carter Hansen continued to demonstrate his blocking skills to pull the Kodiaks ahead. Kings Hamish Hazelden came into the set with a massive seven kills, leading the Kings to a comeback to take the set 25-22.

The final set proved the teams to be closely matched a constant back-and-fourth battle. The game deciding play came down to Carter Hansen with a kill that he drilled down, leaving the Kodiaks with a 15-11 set win an overall 3-2 game victory.

With this win the Kodiaks advance to 3-3 while the Kings suffer their first loss, dropping their record to 5-1. The Kodiaks are back in action next weekend with a 2 game series in Olds.
