Rattlers take it at Home
In Medicine Hat, the Olds College Broncos were in town to take on the Rattlers. The first set started with neither team gaining an advantage out of the gate. Both offences were clicking well and defense was not particularly stellar from either side. In the mid part of the game, the broncos rode the stellar serving of Ituriel Mora Agullar opened up a 5 point lead, 15-10. A substitution seemed to spark the Rattlers as the following points were played with more vigor. This did not last as the Broncos battled to maintain a lead. Errors from the Rattlers prevented them from ever really getting into the game. Near the end of the set, Medicine Hat College showed some life going on a 3 point run forcing the broncos to call a timeout needing only a side out to win. This came quickly as they needed only 2 chances to win the game 25-27
The second set saw the Rattlers come out with a stronger squad on the floor. The first set saw Coach Mark Porter play a bunch of rookie players in the first set. After the loss, most of their first string was back on the floor this saw Medicine Hat build an early 4 point lead up 13-9. Having rested the first set, these players started to find their groove and the Rattlers offence started firing. This helped them extend their lead winning the second set 25-16. Tying it 1 all.
The third set saw both teams come out looking for an advantage. The Rattlers found one in their blocking. 3 straight blocks from Brodie Dolter, Vitor Periera, and Brenan Kuffert put the Rattlers up 8-3. More stellar defensive play saw the rattlers up by 9 widening the gap 15-6. The teams traded points from here ending up with a lopsided score in the set with the Rattlers taking it 25-13
The Rattlers looked to capitalize on their lead and finish the match in 4. Jumping out to a 5 point lead halfway through the set the chances looked good for the Rattlers. Widening the gap, Medicine Hat went up 17-10 when the Broncos called a timeout to regroup. This seemed to do the trick as they scored 3 as soon as play resumed. Trying to come back, Olds closed the gap to 4 points. This was as close as they got as Medicine Hat closed out the game 25-18 winning 3-1.
