Dragicevic shines in Broncos loss to RDC

http://gobroncos.ca/sports/mvball/2019-20/photos/IMG_9908_web.jpg Olds College Broncos men's volleyball team lost 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-16) to the Red Deer College Kings in the Broncos Olds College Staff and Faculty Appreciation Night Thursday, Nov. 7 at the Ralph Klein Centre.

Red Deer jumped out to a 3-0 lead before the Broncos fought back to quickly tie it before taking a 7-5 lead. The teams went back and forth but the Broncos were able to maintain a one to two point lead until Red Deer forced an Olds timeout with a Broncos 14-13 advantage. Shortly after, Red Deer took a 16-15 lead before Ryzen Walkingbear ended their run with a strong kill along the line. RDC was able to build a 19-17 lead before Ryzen Walkingbear struck again. Red Deer was able to extend their lead to 23-19, forcing another Broncos timeout. Red Deer took a timeout with a 24-21 lead. Red Deer scored out of the timeout to take the set 25-21.

Red Deer jumped out to a two point lead and were able to maintain that lead until the Broncos went on a three point run with River Thomas up to serve to take a 5-4 lead. Red Deer went on a run of their own to take a 10-7 lead and forcing a Broncos timeout. RDC was able to maintain their 3-2 point lead until RDC went on a short run and extended their lead to 21-15. Ryzen Walkngbear had a thundering kill to bring the score to 24-18 for RDC and starting a short run for Olds, before falling 25-19.

The third set had both teams going back and forth, with neither team building more than a one point lead. RDC broke this trend to take an 8-6 lead before a Ryzen Walkingbear kill turned the momentum around. The teams then went back and forth with RDC holding a 1-2 point advantage before a Carter Hills ace and hard serving extended the RDC lead to 14-9 and forcing a Broncos timeout. Olds came out of the timeout strong, but were unable to cut much into the Kings lead. RDC extended their lead to 21-14 and Olds took another timeout. The teams played sideout volleyball until

Player of the game for Red Deer was Ben Holmes with a game high 10 kills to go with eight digs and the Pit Barbecue Player of the Game for the Broncos was Lukas Dragicevic with a team high nine kills and a game high two service aces.

Red Deer held the advantage in kills 36-28, assists 30-27, service aces 5-3, digs 38-32 and blocks 12-9. The Broncos host Ambrose University Saturday, Nov. 16 for the Parent Appreciation Night. Game time is 8:00 pm.
