MVB | Kodiaks Winning Streak Spoiled by The Kings
Nov. 23, 2019 - The Lethbridge College Kodiaks looked to sweep the Red Deer College Kings in their back to back series at home. After a convincing victory Friday night for the Kodiaks, Red Deer came to the court looking for revenge.
Quickly reclaiming their dominance, the Kings stepped foot onto the court with a new found focus. First year, Carter Hills of Red Deer managed to strike in five kills, while Kodiaks fifth year Michael Hummel also found five kills for himself. Unfortunately, Hummel couldn't raise his team up to overtake Red Deer as they closed the set with a score of 25 - 15.
As the match moved into the second set, Lethbridge regrouped which ultimately paid off. They won the set with a score of 25 - 19. Hummel continued play at a high intensity, earning four more kills and keeping his team dialed in.
The momentum from both sets carried into the third where both teams were battling to find a lead. The Kodiaks gave up a few points which allowed the Kings to sneak away with a small advantage nearing the end of the set. This would be all Red Deer would need to win set three, 25 - 19. Mark DeWit of the Kings carried his team in the third set with four kills and one dig, meanwhile for the Kodiaks, majority of their kills were evenly assigned.
Red Deer went into the fourth set looking to finish up the match. Head coach, Greg Gibos of Lethbridge was forced into calling a timeout mid way through the set as the Kodiaks were starting to trail behind. Unfortunately, the Kodiaks couldn't enforce a counter attack. Red Deer closed out the match with a score of 25 - 15.
Jeremiah Bohnert of Lethbridge earned player of the match due to his outstanding energy on and off the court. The Kodiaks will host one more home game before the holidays. Ambrose Lions are expected November 29th where Lethbridge will be in search of a win after an upsetting Saturday afternoon.
