Weekend sweep for Men's Volleyball Huskies over Thunder
The Keyano Huskies Men's Volleyball team completed their weekend sweep of the Concordia Thunder Saturday in Fort McMurray, Alta. with a straight-sets victory (25-16, 25-13, 25-20) inside the Syncrude Sport and Wellness Centre.
Radoslaw Brzozowski had eight of the Huskies' 30 kills in the match while Trey Wienmeier and Cameron Visscher each had six of their own.
Nikola Sreckovic stepped into the starting setter role for Saturday's matchup, dishing out 22 assists, adding a pair of digs, a single block, and three kills.
Athus Silva led a block party for the Huskies with half of his team's eight blocks. Carter Bragg, Weinmeier, and Sreckovic contributed the other four blocks throughout the match.
From the service line the Huskies out-aced the Thunder by a 9-4 margin. Weinmeier and rookie Matthew Rapin each had a pair to tie for the team lead while five others collected aces in the match as well.
The Huskies made quick work of each set, establishing early leads and refusing to let the Thunder back in the contest. The win was the Huskies' sixth in a row, keeping them in the top three of the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference's North Division.
Wyatt Turnbull had 11 kills to lead the Thunder while James Bryce had eight of his own. Setter Nate Kornelsen had 17 assists and four digs in the contest, also collecting his team's lone block in the match.
Sreckovic and Lane claimed Player of the Game honours for their respective sides.
The two programs will meet once more in the regular season when they do battle in Edmonton, Alta. next weekend on January 23, 2022.
