SAIT Sweeps weekend with 6 straight sets over Rattlers

After wrapping up a win at home 3-0 the night before, the SAIT Trojans headed south to Medicine Hat to take on the Rattlers. The Rattlers, winless on the season, looked to break through for the first time in front of their home crowd. The first set started with an even exchange from both sides with neither team grabbing a firm lead at any time. With the score 10-9 the Trojans took their first timeout up one. As the teams came out of the timeout the Trojans seemed to gain a bit of momentum, forcing Medicine Hat to take their first timeout down 2. The Trojans continued to pull away late in the set as well, going up 22-17. Able to cruise through the last few points, the Trojans were able to take the first set 25-19.

The Rattlers struggled at the start of the second set quickly haemorrhaging 6 points to go down 6-1. Able to steal a touch of momentum back they scored a quick 3 points to bring it back to a 2 point game. The Ratters were able to keep within striking distance for the majority of the set but again found the Trojans lead growing late. This forced the home side to take a timeout down 19-14. The momentum against them, Medicine Hat continued to falter as the Trojans were able to take the second set 25-18, going up 2 sets to 0.

The Third set started with the teams trading side outs for the first few points, neither team able to grab any significant momentum. But very quickly the Rattlers made a few quick errors and the Trojans found themselves with an 8-3 lead. This saw the home side burn an early timeout in an effort to right the ship. It seemed to help for a second with 2 quick points, but again errors came back to bite the Rattlers. A sloppy set from both sides saw the Rattlers able to hold on to a sense of the game but quickly fell behind even further going down 7, 16-9. This time the Trojans had a call go against them and a few unforced errors saw the Rattlers get within 4, before another missed serve saw momentum go back to SAIT. the Trojans were able to cruise to a 25-18 third set.

The ACAC Players of the game were Josh Crane from SAIT and Ty Moline from MHC.
