Ooks Defeat The Eagles
On Saturday afternoon, there was an electric atmosphere in the NAIT gymnasium as the Ooks took on the TKU Eagles. The two Edmonton-based teams are fighting for first place in the division. They faced off on Friday night where the Eagles took the W, winning 3-1. The Ooks came out to play.
As expected, the first set was close. Both teams were battling it out to prove who is the best in the league. Neither team was up more than two points for the set duration, but the Ooks managed to take it home at the end, sliding ahead 25-23.
The second set was no different. Both teams came to play today, and the electric crowd helped keep the atmosphere electric. Shae McIntyre came up big for the Ooks late in the set to hit a couple of good balls home. These points gave the Ooks the momentum they needed to pull ahead of the Eagles. Although they were ahead, the Eagles were never far behind. The Ooks managed to keep the lead as they won the second set 25-22.
The Ooks started strong in the third set as they took a three-point lead, but the Eagles weren't backing down as they came back to tie it up. Both teams were within one for the set. The Ooks pulled ahead late, but a service error by Carter Hills gave the Eagles the momentum they needed to come back. The Eagles won the third set 26-24, cutting the Ooks lead in half.
The Eagles weren't ready to go home, so they came out in the fourth set sharp and ready to go. Neither team had much luck pulling ahead into the lead. It was a deadlock tie game for most of the set. The Ooks pulled ahead by two late in the set, but the Eagles were quick to tie it back up. The Ooks were ready to take it as they buried a couple of good ones to take back their lead. The Ooks won 25-23.
Both teams are back in action next weekend.
