The Vikings struggles contiue with a close set loss to Thunder

CAMROSE, AB - Continuing to struggle to find wins, the Vikings drop a marathon match to the visiting Concordia Thunder 3-2 (25-23, 20-25, 17-25, 25-22, 18-16), Friday night at Augustana Gym.

With the win, the Thunder improves to a 2-10 record through 12 games, while also tying the Vikings in standing for last place in the ACAC North Division with four points apiece.

Planning to meet again tomorrow night, the teams will be battling it out for what could be the final playoff spot as the season draws to a close next weekend, although some teams may have rescheduled games due to postponement.

Exchanging points throughout the first set, the Thunder found the slight edge with seven successful kills compared to the Vikings five to take the set, 25-23.

Recovering well and keeping their visitors in check, the Vikings held the Thunder to a .045 kill percentage to take the second set, 25-20, and tie the game at one apiece.

Looking to have shifted all momentum to the home court, the Vikings dominated the third set for the match large margin, taking the lead with a 25-17 set win.

Looking to stay in the game, the Thunder were able to hang on to win the fourth, 25-22, forcing a fifth and deciding set.

Needing extra points in the final frame, the two teams pushed each other to the brink. With only one kill error in the set, it seemed as though the home side would get in the league win coulum, but the relented Thunder found a way to take the set, 18-16, and ultimatelyly the match.

Both teams will meet again tomorrow night in Edmonton as the Thunder host the Vikings at 8:00 PM MT. Catch all the action on ACACTV.
