Clippers Dominate in Faceoff Against Lions

Briercrest's Men's volleyball played host to the Ambrose Lion's in a Friday night matchup in Caronport. 

Both teams went back and forth opening the first set with a score of 4-4 early on. Strong hitting got Briercrest ahead 9-6, and eventually 13-9, which saw Ambrose call timeout. Out of the break, the solid hitting continued and both teams picked up their defensive efforts. Briercrest managed to pull away after this and would take the first set by a score of 25-19 

Opening the second set, the Clippers got out to a 7-3 lead, they kept pushing and extended their lead to 12-6 which saw an Ambrose timeout right after. Ambrose pushed back out of the break, but Briercrest got ahead 18-11 causing another timeout to be taken by the Lions. Solid back and forth play occurred from both sides out of this break, and the Clippers would end up winning the second set the same as the first, 25-19. 

3rd Set- 

In the third set, Ambrose got out to an early lead up 4-2. Briercrest tied up the score at 6 a piece and the teams shared some entertaining back and forth rallies. The Clippers pulled ahead 10-7 leading to a timeout from the Lions. Solid serving and a couple of aces from Briercrest's #10 Judah Matthies saw the Clippers extend their lead to 13-7. Briercrest kept pushing the pace, getting up by as much as 9 points, leading 19-10. They didn't let up after, and took the 3rd set by a score of 25-15.

The ACAC players of the game awards were presented by Briercrest Volleyball Alumnus Ethan Larsen who played 2 seasons for the clippers. For Ambrose, the award went to #13 Kade Miller with 10 Kills, 3 Digs and 1 Block. For Briercrest, the award was presented to #2 Brady Watchel who had 10 Digs in the match. 

The Clippers are back in action tomorrow afternoon as they take on the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings at 4pm.
