Clippers Win Nail-Biter Versus Broncos to Advance in Playoffs

The Briercrest Clipper's men's volleyball team hosted the Old's College Bronco's in a quarterfinal match Sunday afternoon. 

The game saw a high-intensity start from the Clippers, surging up 4-0 and feeding off the frenzied crowd. Old's called a timeout to slow them down early on. Out of the break, the teams traded points with Briercrest holding an 8-5 lead. The Clippers doubled their lead to 6, up 14-8 now. The Bronco's narrowed the gap to 18-15, and then 19-17, which saw the Clippers call a timeout of their own. At 23-20 for Briercrest, Old's called another timeout. Out of the break, Briercrest held them off and took the first set 25-22. 

The second set saw a tight game, with neither side giving the other an inch. The score was 6-5 for the Clippers before the momentum seemed to swing in the Bronco's favor as they took a 13-9 lead, resulting in a Briercrest timeout. With the score now at 20-13 for Old, the clippers called another timeout to stop the bleeding. It did not work out for them, however, as Old's took the second set 25-16. 

In the third set, there was close back and forth action early on as both sides battled hard. Old's did edge ahead by three points, but Briercrest battled back to tie the game at 12. Each team showed fight and determination culminating in entertaining rallies. The crowd was deafening on both sides, as the fans showcased their support. Briercrest got ahead 18-14, and then 23-20, which saw an Old's timeout. Briercrest would go on to win the 3rd set by a score of 25-22.

The fourth set proved to be even more thrilling than the third, as both teams gave it their all on the court. Briercrest was ahead 5-4 early on, Old's took the lead back going up 10-8. The game saw itself tied at 15, with the teams trading points one after another. Old's obtained a 20-17 lead over Briercrest, which saw the Clipper's call timeout. The timeout seemed to work as the Clippers tied up the game at 21, which saw a Bronco's timeout. The intense battle had the crowd on the edge of their seats, as the game was tied at 24 and headed for extras. Both teams had several chances to put the set away, and it eventually would be the Clippers who did so. Winning the fourth set by a score of 33-31 and taking the match three sets to one.

Calvin and John. For Old's, the award was given to #3 Thomas Pugsley, who had an impressive 38 assists, 10 digs, and 2 kills. For Briercrest, the award was given to #11 Karym Coleman, who recorded a monster performance consisting of 36 Kills, 10 digs, and 1 block.
