Rustlers lose tough battle to Eagles

Lakeland's winning streak was snapped at home, despite a strong contingent of home fans.

The Rustlers were looking for their sixth straight victory, but faced a King's Eagles team desperate for a win after being swept in their own building on Friday. An early burst from the visitors saw them up nearly double digits in the first set, but the home side battled back, tying the match on another huge serving streak from sub Gabriel Bjorkas. After going back and forth, a block sealed the Rustlers 34-32 opening set win.

The second and third sets were also tight affairs, with each teams trading blows, before the Eagles were able to close at 25-23. In the fourth, King's gained a lead mid set and never relinquished it, winning 25-19.

Gustavo Lobato had a match high 19 kills for the Rustlers, while setter Mason Gorski was the Eagles POG.

With the loss, Lakeland is now 8-7 and behind both King's and NAIT for a shot at a bye to the ACAC Championship. They have a break this weekend, before hosting Concordia on Feb. 3.
