Travaglini Honoured as 2017-18 ACAC Men's Indoor Track Runner of the Year
EDMONTON, AB (March 23, 2018) – The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce Matthew Travaglini of the SAIT Trojans has been selected as the 2017-18 ACAC Indoor Track Runner of the Year.
Travaglini dominated this season, winning every race he entered during the Grand Prix season, as well as capturing three individual gold medals at the ACAC Championships hosted by MacEwan University in Edmonton, Alta., March 9-10. At the Conference Championships, he helped the Trojans men's team to their second straight title by taking first place in the 1,000, 1,500 and 3,000-metre events while setting new ACAC records in each of the three races.
"After winning the ACAC and CCAA National Championship cross-country running titles earlier this season, Matthew showed he could be just as successful on the track," says Wade Kolmel, SAIT Trojans Athletics and Recreation Director. "He is a very talented runner, and we are proud of him for earning this prestigious award."
The third-year runner from London, Ont., is in his first year at SAIT, and is currently enrolled in the post-secondary's Geographic Information Systems program.
