Chris King Honoured as ACAC 2017-18 Woman’s North Basketball Coach of the Year

Calgary, Alberta February 28, 2018—The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is proud to announce that Chris King of the Lakeland Rustlers, has been selected as the 2017-2018 Women's Basketball Coach of the Year for the North Division.

King is in his tenth season as head coach of the women's basketball team at Lakeland College. In the 2017-2018 season, under King's leadership, the team improved on its 2016– 2017 12 and 12 record and posted a 16 and 8 regular season record. This season the Rustlers women's basketball team was made up of a number of first year student athletes who improved significantly as the year progressed. 

King is an alumnus of Lakeland and returned to his home community after working towards his degree at the University of Lethbridge. King has coached youth basketball in the local community and has also led local youth basketball camps at Lakeland.

"Coach King has been working hard to build a successful women's basketball program for a decade at Lakeland and it is great to see his efforts acknowledged by his peers and rewarded by the Conference," commented Lakeland Athletic Director Alan Rogan.

Lakeland Rustlers Athletics congratulate Coach King on receiving the ACAC Women's Basketball North Division Coach of the Year award. This prestigious award was presented to King at the 2017-18 ACAC Women's Basketball Championships Banquet held February 28th at SAIT.

Its mission is to foster the development of the student-athlete through the administration and promotion of intercollegiate athletics as part of the educational experience and provide a leadership role in the development of sport in Alberta.
