WBB | Kodiaks come out on top in home opener
Oct. 13, 2018 – After enduring a rebuilding season last year, the Lethbridge College Kodiaks women's basketball used their home opener to send a statement to the rest of the ACAC.
This won't be a team to take lightly.
The Kodiaks used a balanced offensive attack and aggressive defence to down the reigning ACAC silver medalist SAIT Trojans 58-46 on Saturday night.
The home side had to battle some early nerves, as missed layups helped SAIT jump out to a 10-3 lead, and a 15-13 advantage after the first quarter.
Lethbridge bore down in the second, however, outscoring SAIT 18-8 to take a 31-23 lead into half. The Kodiaks then poured in another 18 in the third quarter, preventing the Trojans from making any major runs at their lead.
The Kodiaks only had one player in double-digits scoring, instead using a balanced scoring approach and quick substitutions to maintain constant energy on the floor.
Madi Gladstone led the Kodiaks with twelve points and five steals, while Matlin McMurray (8 PTS, 9 REB) was named Kodiaks player of the game for an all-around strong game.
Anegor Wol scored 11 points off the bench for the Trojans, while Melanie Thera scored ten and added eight rebounds.
The Kodiaks (1-0) will now take on Ambrose next Saturday in Calgary, while the Trojans (1-1) will take on defending ACAC champion St. Mary's next Friday.
