ACAC Champions St. Mary's University defeat SAIT Polytechnic in Home Opener

St. Mary's University Women's Basketball team had a historic opening in their home gym at Glenmore Christian Academy. The Lightning squad from 2017-18 unveiled their championship banner in front of a full house . Emily Wagner - 2018/19 Team Captain had her former teammates to assist her to unveil the banner the school first ACAC championship.

1st Quarter - St. Mary's 19 SAIT Trojans 6

Strong first quarter lead by Hannah Helton (2nd Year) with her first 5 points and Kennedy Burgess (2nd Year) with 8 points.

SAIT were definately missing Alexa Tan and Melanie Thera for some much needed offence. Skyler MacDonald had 3 of their 6 points in the quarter

St. Mary's finished the quarter with 44% Field goals and SAIT only 14%

 

2nd Quarter - SAIT Trojans 15 St. Mary's 13

SAIT Women won this quarter with contributions from Skyler MacDonald (3 points) and Anger Wol/Hope Lewis/Martina Allen with 4 points each. Much better effort by the Trojans. The Lightning gave a few points back but work back to have a 17 point lead going into the intermission break. They were lead by Hannah Helton with 9 points. Lightning lead 32-21.

3rd quarter - St. Mary's 13 SAIT 6

Lightning Women continue to show their dominance in the 3rd quarter. Extending their by 17 points. Contributions dominationed by Kennedy Burgess (8 points) and Emily Wagner (5 points). SAIT Jaiden Hansen and Hope Lewis had 3 points a piece. 

4th Quarter - SAIT 13 St. Mary's 10

A push back from SAIT to win another quarter with Skyler McDonald showing her 5 points. St. Mary's held Melissa Wooley from only contributing 2 points in the game. Sydney Deighton had a monster 4th quarter with her 6 points and propelled St. Mary's to their biggest lead of the game to 21 points

 

Final Score St. Mary's University (2-1) 55 SAIT Polytechnic (1-2) 41
