Wolves Host Lakeland for a Weekend Series

After an hour and a half delay due to uncontrollable circumstances, the woman's basket ball game is set to commence at 7:30 pm.  During the pregame warm-up drills both teams looked like they were unfazed by the alteration of their normal schedule, hopefully the guest DJ FRESH with Freshly Squeezed Entertainment and the Make Some Noise Bike A THON, helps set the pace for great game.

The tip off goes out of bounds on the rustlers and the wolves start with the ball, the woman's team drives to the net with purpose trying to build on their win from last week. The Wolves pass is out of bounds and the Rustlers get the ball. After some stellar defense the Wolves get the ball back and score the first points of the game, 2 points to number 12.  The Rustlers won't go down with a fight and score 6 unanswered points before the Wolves manage to get back on the score board.  The Rustlers defense continues to frustrate the Wolves offense, stopping them from driving to the net and forcing them to take shots from tthe three point line. Brittany Peters draws her second foul and sinks both shots bringing the score to 10-17 for the rustlers.  Brittany Peters drains a deep 3 to get her team back in the game, but this is again followed up immediately by a Lakeland 3. The Wolves show off a bit of impressive crisp passing to hit an open Brittany Peters who makes the most of the opportunity, 15-20.  The Wolves have a shot clock violation that the Rustlers capitalize on and score 2.  The Wolves defense tightened up at the end of the quarter and keep the Rustlers from being able to run to the net and forcing the contested shots.  The quarter ends 15-24 for the rustlers on the strength of their defensive play.

Quarter 2 starts with the Rustlers in possession of the ball and they quickly disorient the Wolves defense with a flurry of passes, but miss on two opportunities to score.  The Wolves Sophie fouls Lakeland number 12 and she goes 1 for 2 getting the first points of the quarter which they quickly follow up with 2 points the score is now 15-27 Lakeland.  The Wolves defense continues to let the rustler offense dominate this quarter with another 2 going to Lakeland to make it 15-29 and the Wolves take a time out to get themselves centered. The Wolves score a 3 pointer with 45 seconds left in the 2nd that stands until the end with the score heading into half being 24-40 for the rustlers.

The second half starts with a Wolves possession that they capitalize on 26-40.  The Rustlers also get a jumper for 2, 26-42.  Brittany Peters pulls her fourth foul early in the 3rd and the Rustlers go 2 for 2 putting the score 26-44.  The Wolves defensive unit came out firing on all cylinders but they couldn't hold back the Rustlers offensive storm for long giving up 4 unanswered points before the wolves get a layup 28-48.  The third quarter has been a defensive players dream with both teams failing to make any significant gains and the Wolves take a time out with 36 seconds left.  The third quarter ends with a score of 28-50 for the Lakeland rustlers.

The fourth and final quarter starts with a Rustler possession and the Wolves defense gets a big stop.  The first points in the fourth come off of a Wolves penalty the Rustlers go up 28-52.  The Wolves call a timeout with 7:43 left and the fourth is a continuation of the story from the third with both teams displaying strong defensive play and missed opportunities.  The Rustler defense has decided to shut down the game forcing the Wolves to take 2 shot clock violations, one of which result in a scoring spree with 4 unanswered points.  The Wolves score 6 in the final minute to bring the final score to 34-61 for the Lakeland Rustlers
