Wolves Host Lakeland for a Weekend Series
Wolves host Lakeland for the 2nd game of the weekend series. Off to a quick start, the Wolves put 4 points on the board to Lakelands 1. Sophie Melin drained a 3 point shoot to go up 7-1. A fast break turns it to 9-1 for the Wolves. Lakeland has no choice but to call a timeout. 4 minutes to go in the 1st quarter. The Rustlers come back with a few buckets and the quarter ends 13-9 Wolves.
2nd quarter starts with a 3 point shoot by #10 Lilee Burke-Stasiuk. Wolves up 16-9. A fast break ends with a 2 point layout by #6 Tayia Paylor. Sophie Leslie followed it up with a 3 point make. Battling hard at both ends the score is 19-15 for the Wolves half way through. Rustlers go on a run to even the score at 20-20. A few buckets by each team put the Rustlers up 26-23 and then a big 3 point shot puts Lakeland up by 6. The half ends Lakeland up 29-23.
Rustlers open up the gap in the 3rd quarter scoring 7 points in the first few minutes. Wolves don't respond and find themselves down 10 points. Rustlers offensive couldn't be stopped. The quarter ends Lakeland up 50-28.
Wolves are looking to close the gap. They are the first to score in the quarter. Heidi Derksen sinks both by from the free throw line to make the score 50-30. Rustlers are quick to respond with a field goal. With under 4 minutes to go Wolves are down 55-32. Wolves couldn't get the offensive going and the game ended Lakeland 61 to the Wolves 36.
The Mr. Mikes Player of the Game for the Lakeland Rustlers was #4 Ally Pilgram with 11 points and 5 rebounds and from the Grande Prairie Regional College Wolves #14 Heidi Derksen with 6 points and 4 rebounds.
