Huskies Rebound Against Lakeland

With a wind chill factor of minus 36 outside...it was time to heat things up inside at the Syncrude Sport & Wellness Centre as the Keyano Huskies hosted the Lakeland College Rustlers in Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference women's basketball.

With a 49-47 win the previous night the Huskies were now up 11 wins and 2 losses in ACAC North Division standings while the Rustlers sat in second place at 10 wins and 3 losses.

Rustlers 6-foot-4 centre Bilge Topaloglu is on fire hitting all four of her attempts to lead her team to a 17-8 advantage after one period.

Huskies struggling from the field going 3-of-13.

Huskies' Joy "The Vertical" Victor ties up the game at 23-23 as she windexes the defensive glass and goes coast-to-coast for the score. A Victor free throw with 40.2 seconds remaining until halftime gives the Huskies a 24-23 edge. A Huskies Aliyah "A.J." Johnson free throw at 0.2 makes it 25-23.

Huskies battle back in the third period – highlighted by a Victor acrobatic layup – to take a slim 39-36 lead.

Exciting third period has the Huskies outscoring the Rustlers 16-14 to secure a 55-50 win.

Lakeland Player of the Game is Hailey Somers. Huskies nod goes to Johnson.
