Thibeaux sets new ACAC career blocks record in win over Briercrest

In a historic night where Brittney Thibeaux set a new ACAC career blocks record with her 105th, the Olds College Broncos women's basketball team defeated the Briercrest College Clippers 109-65 in the Parent Appreciation Game Saturday, Feb. 1 at the Ralph Klein Centre.

The teams went back and forth to start the game with Briercrest holding a slight 4-3 lead after three minutes. The Broncos then went on a run and built a 14-6 lead with three minutes left in the quarter. The Broncos continued their run throughout the quarter building up a 26-6 lead.

Briercrest showed some new life to start the second quarter, regaining their scoring touch, but the Broncos also continued to score and built up a 44-12 lead halfway through the quarter. The teams exchanged baskets with the Broncos extending their lead to 49-14 with a minute and a half left. Briercrest's Angenay Williams had an amazing spin and shoot basket to cut the lead to 49-16 for the Broncos. Briercrest was able to go on a 6-0 run to end the half and cut the lead to 49-20.

The third quarter started with Brittany Thibeaux recording her second block of the game which set an ACAC record 105th block of her career. The quarter continued with a flurry of back to forth baskets and the score at 62-31 after five minutes. The teams continued back and forth play to end the third quarter 84-45 for Broncos.

Briercrest started the fourth quarter with a 6-2 run to cut the Broncos lead to 86-51 before a Macyn Morning Bull three stalled the Clippers run. A Hope Jordens hook shot for the Clippers cut the score back to 92-53. The teams continued to go back forth with the score at 99-59 with three minutes left in the game. A Michaela Allen-Gullion three brought the score to 109-65, which is where it ended.

Player of the game for Briercrest was Hope Jordens with 12 points and a team high 11 rebounds and the Pit Barbecue Player of the Game for the Broncos was Brittney Thibeaux with 23 points and a game high 13 rebounds to go with three blocks to raise her ACAC record to 106.

The Broncos led the game in rebounds 47-32, assists 27-13, steals 15-7 and blocks 8-2. Game leaders for the Broncos were Michaela Allen-Gullion with a game high 29 points and six steals, Alli Taylor with a game high four blocks, and Brandi Thibeaux with a game high 13 assists.

The Broncos host Medicine Hat College Friday and Saturday, February 7 and 8 for Make Some Noise for Mental Health weekend.
