Briercrest completes weekend sweep to end season on a win streak

Caronport, SK. February 29th saw the Briercrest Women's basketball team taking on the SAIT Trojans. 

 

The Clippers were looking to win their second matchup of the weekend in this Saturday afternoon game. The opening quarter was much of the same as Fridays game, with tight defence and low scoring that saw the teams tied up at 7 halfway through the opening quarter. The teams continued going back and forth, with SAIT having the slight edge, up 23-18 entering the second. 

 

In the second, the Trojans opened strong shooting from three point range and went on a 9-2 run leading to a Clippers timeout. SAIT lead by as much as 16 at one point, however, Briercrest battled back and cut the lead to 9, down 43-34 entering the break. 

 

Starting the third, the Clippers game out strong, going on a 13-0 run and taking a 47-43 lead. The Clippers strong rebounding and defence saw them extend their lead to 13 as they took a 66-53 lead into the fourth quarter after a great overall third quarter on both ends of the floor. 

 

In the final quarter, Sait came out strong and cut the lead down to 6, trailing 72-66 with five minutes left. The teams went back and forth for the remainder of the quarter, with the Clippers remaining ahead 7 in the final minutes. Briercrest would hold on and took this matchup and their last game of the season by a score of 86-77. 

 

The player of the game award for the Trojans went to #6 Rachel Osczevski who had 18 points, along with 15 rebounds and 2 blocks. For Briercrest, the award went to #23 Angenay Williams, who was playing in her final game on this senior night. Williams had 42 Points, along with 12 rebounds and 5 assists. 

 

After the game, Williams had this to say; "It was a great way to end the season, and a good way to end my college career".
