Ambrose comes out on top in rematch Saturday
Briercrest Women's Basketball hosted Ambrose University in a rematch Saturday afternoon.
After the loss yesterday, Ambrose came back with a vengeance and hammered hard against the
Briercrest's defense, holding their own as Briercrest made many swift drives for the basket.
Clippers fought hard for the points they got as the quarter closed out at 25-4 for Ambrose.
In the second, Briercrest had good steals and quick plays, earning their 12 points, quadrupling
their score in the first quarter. They pressured hard, giving as good as they got going into half
time, ending with 37-16.
Opening the second half, Briercrest came out strong, slamming 4 points with a fast break away
by #9 to show for their stronger fire. With a hard-earned offensive front for Briercrest getting
those rebounds, strong shooting at 3 in the last second closed the third at 57-32.
Coming out of the third with that high energy, Briercrest held a strong defence and hammered in
with swift breakaways that had the audience on the edge of their seats. They finished hard until
the very end to close the game at 73-49 for Ambrose.
Player of the game, presented by Max Summach, was awarded to Ambrose's #14 Paige Goertzen
with 16 points, 1 assist, 12 rebounds, 1 steal, and 1 block, and also to Briercrest's #14 Hope
Jordan with 9 points, 1 assist, 15 rebounds, and 4 steals.
Hope Jordan commented after that game on her team and the goals looking forward for the
season. "For our defense, we really put the pressure on and came out hard with our switches and
talking. Due to the COVID season last year, this is their first set of ACAC games and are pretty
young at the moment. It's a good learning experience and we've got to figure out who we are as
we look ahead and focus on the next game. We're getting our footing and figuring out what
Briercrest's defense and offense is going to look like."
Looking forward to watch the Briercrest women come into their own, the school will be right
alongside them eager to watch them improve. From a year without ACAC games for these
women, it'll be an exciting season for them as they set their sights on the next game.
