Trojans edged by Queens at home

CALGARY, ALTA., (Feb. 4, 2022) - The SAIT Trojans women's basketball team had a chance late, but a victory was not meant to be.

The Trojans missed two layups with less than nine seconds left, as they fell to Red Deer Polytechnic 78-76 in their Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) contest played inside SAIT's Campus Centre.

SAIT falls to 7-5 on the year while Red Deer jumps to 5-4.

The gameplan for the Trojans on the night was to shoot the ball, and that they did. SAIT attempted 43 shots from beyond the arc, making good on 14 of them to shoot just under 33 percent for the night. Leading the way for SAIT was Kendal Russell, who scored 14 of her 20 points on the night in the final quarter of play to bring her team back into it. 

Teammate Ava Kearl chipped in with 18 points.

Russell capped off the night being named her team's Player of the Game.

Red Deer was led by Sophie Melin, who scored a game-high 24 points to be named her team's Player of the Game. Lauren France added 15 of her own.

SAIT will get a chance to avenge the loss Saturday night back in Red Deer when they teams wrap up their weekend set.
