Broncos Beat Clippers in Down To The Wire Game

The first quarter kicked off with strong defense and post play with Briercrest scoring the first two baskets, both being entered by team captain Hope Jordens. The Broncos took off after this however, scoring 12 straight due to frontcourt pressure, anchored by their length on the floor. The Clippers were able to then go on a run at the end of the quarter due to getting in the paint and drawing fouls and continued soft interior touch around the rim from Hope Jordens. The score at the end of the quarter: 14-10 Clippers.

The start of the second quarter kicked off with back-and-forth baskets, with both teams forcing turnovers. Near the middle point of the quarter, the Broncos took off, mounting six straight points raising the score to 25-14 Broncos at the 5:35 mark of the quarter. Strong defense combined with beautiful ball movement, as well as good passing and shooting from #7 Brooklyn Martens sparked a comeback effort for the Clippers, cutting the Broncos lead to 4 with a score of 31-27 for the Broncos at the one-minute mark. Neither team was able to score a bucket for the rest of the quarter.

The frontcourt press for the Broncos was back on at the start of the third quarter, and it was effective as ever, leading the Broncos on an 11-0 run at the start of the quarter. The Broncos were then able to extend their lead from 15 to 20, off forcing turnovers from the Clippers. The Clippers were able to cut the lead to 14 at the end of the quarter as a consolation. The score at the end of the third quarter: 53-39 Broncos.

Baskets were traded at the start of the fourth quarter, with both teams aggressively running down the floor and driving it into the pain on the fast break. Eventually, the Clippers were able to cut into the Broncos league even more, cutting it to 6 points with three minutes left in the quarter. The score: 66-60 for Olds. With a minute left in the game, the Clippers had tied the game 66-66 off pressing defensive play. With 22 seconds left in the game, the score was 70-68, after trading trips at the free-throw line. Olds was able to hold on after sinking a final free throw, making the final score 71-68.
