Ooks top Huskies win ACAC North semi-final
The NAIT Ooks marched into the Syncrude Sport and Wellness Centre and emerged with a 59-49 win against the Keyano Huskies Women's Basketball team Sunday.
Four Ooks reached double-digit points in the win, led by 13 points from Aliyah Johnson. Lucy Wilde contributed 12 points and Carly McHarg had 11. Aphia Ward rounded out the quartet with 10 points while Hallie Watt barely missed out on joining the group, scoring nine points while adding 12 rebounds.
The Ooks claimed an 18-11 lead through one quarter and increased the lead to 11 at the half. The Huskies chipped away at the lead in the third quarter to trail by just eight entering the final quarter. However, the comeback bid was not meant to be as the Ooks won the quarter 15-13 to close out the victory.
From the field, the Ooks shot 32.3 per cent (20-for-62), making good on five of 22 attempted three-point shots. They also sank 14 of 21 attempted free throws.
It was a tough night from the field for the Huskies outside a trio of double-digit performers who accounted for 41 of their 49 points. Danielle MacLellan led all scorers on both sides with 16 points while Moiyan Toure was a single point off with 15, adding 17 rebounds in the contest. Marijana Besic added 10 points in the game as well.
Collectively, the Huskies shot 30.9 per cent from the field of 17-of-55 shooting. They made good on 15 of their 18 free throws in the game.
Johnson and MacLellan, both McMurrayites, were named Players of the Game for their respective sides.
