Thunder complete weekend sweep of Women's Basketball Huskies

The Concordia Thunder completed a weekend sweep of the Keyano Huskies Women's Basketball team Saturday afternoon, winning 76-46 at the Syncrude Sport and Wellness Centre in Fort McMurray, Alta. 

Raeesa Cherniwchan led all players with 21 points, also leading a quartet of Thunder players in double digits for the game. 

Fellow starters Kourtney Oss posted 16 points and Kaelyn Bryks had 15 while Jenna Rinsky had 10 points off the bench. Oss added 20 rebounds and Cherniwchan collected 10 to each give them double-doubles in the contest. 

The Huskies nabbed a 12-10 lead after the first quarter, but a strong second put the Thunder up 31-18 through 20 minutes of play. That strong play continued with another 21-point quarter in the third and 24-point effort in the fourth quarter. The Huskies managed 13 points in the third quarter and 15 in the fourth. 

Zera Lynn Panesa was the Huskies' leading scorer with 18 points while Maja Besic was the next closest with eight points. 

Overall, the Thunder shot 40 percent (26-for-65) from the field, making three three-point shots. They also added 21 points on 25 free throw attempts. The Huskies shot 31 percent (18-for-58) from the field, making one three-point shot. They made good on nine of 18 free throw opportunities. 

Cherniwchan and Mzna Mohammed each earned Player of the Game honours for their respective sides.
