Trojans fail in bid for weekend sweep

CALGARY, ALTA., (Jan. 28, 2023) - The SAIT Trojans women's basketball team went from hot to ice cold Saturday night.

The Trojans scored 25 points in the first quarter, and then just 32 in the final 3 quarters combined to fall 68-57 to the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens in their Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) game played at the Jack Simpson Gymnasium in Calgary.

SAIT, who started the season with an impressive 7-1 record, have now lost six of their last seven games to sit at 8-7 for the year. Red Deer has things going the other way - winning their seventh game in a row to reside at 10-6.

Ava Kearl was named SAIT's Player of the Game after scoring 10 points. Teammate Brook Baker continued her fine play, adding 21 points, 11 rebounds and four steals.

Amy Syzmanek led the Queens with 18 points.
