Huskies bound for Lethbridge after defeating Ooks
The Keyano Huskies Women's Basketball team is headed to the 2023 Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Women's Basketball Championship following a 68-50 win against the NAIT Ooks Saturday at the Syncrude Sport and Wellness Centre in Fort McMurray, Alta.
A fast-paced first quarter saw the Huskies jump out to a 25-17 lead. A relatively tame second quarter had the teams combine for 13 points, with the Huskies winning it 8-5 to lead 33-22 at the half.
In the third quarter, a 21-14 score in favour of the Huskies pushed their lead to 18. While the Ooks attempted to press back in the fourth, both teams each scored 14 in the final quarter to preserve the advantage.
Zera Lynn Panesa lead all players with 20 points, edging Lucy Wilde of the Ooks who had 19.
Kayla Lutterodt and Maja Besic each found themselves in double digits as well, scoring 15 and 13 points, respecitvely. Payton Neilson finished with 10 points for the Ooks to join the double-digit club.
Overall, the Huskies shot 45.6 percent from the field (26-for-57), making six of 13 three-point shots attempted. They also made good on 10 of 18 free throws.
The Ooks shot 32.8 percent from the field, making a pair of three-point shots. They went 10-for-15 from the foul line.
Lucy Wilde of the Ooks and Emma Tomchuk of the Huskies earned Player of the Game honours for their respective sides.
