The Keyano Huskies take on the NAIT Ooks in the 5th place game of the 2025 Women's Basketball Championships

In a thrilling showdown for 5th place on the final day of the championship weekend, the NAIT Ooks emerged victorious over the Keyano Huskies, winning 65-56. Both teams showcased determination, but NAIT's balanced offense and strong free-throw shooting helped seal the win.

The Ooks were led by Payton Neilson, who scored 20 points, including an impressive 11-12 from the free-throw line. Neilson also added a rebound and an assist. Mikah Reed chipped in with 16 points, hitting 4 three-pointers and grabbing 7 rebounds. Dior Sellars played a key role with 9 points, 6 assists, and a steal in 37 minutes.

NAIT shot 39% from the field and 35.3% from beyond the arc. They capitalized on their opportunities at the free-throw line, shooting 86.7% (13-15). Their ball movement led to 13 assists, and they made key defensive plays with 8 steals.

For the Keyano Huskies, Danika Cadieux led the charge with 19 points, hitting 8-18 from the field and adding 2 rebounds and 1 assist. Emma Tomchuk contributed 10 points, going a perfect 5-5 from the free-throw line, while Maja Besic recorded a double-double with 9 points and 14 rebounds. Jaylynn Twin provided a spark off the bench with 6 points and 5 rebounds.

Despite their solid 90.9% free-throw shooting (10-11), Keyano struggled with turnovers, giving the ball away 16 times. They also missed opportunities on second-chance points, scoring just 4. The Huskies managed to outrebound NAIT 36-29 but couldn't convert those extra possessions into enough points.

At the end of the game NAIT's superior shooting, fewer turnovers, and strong defensive efforts led them to a hard-fought victory, securing their 5th-place finish at the championship tournament.
