CALGARY, ALTA., (Jan. 28, 2022) - The SAIT Trojans women's hockey team opened their weekend with a tough loss at home.
After two close periods, the Trojans watched as the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens separated themselves in the final frame of a 5-1 loss in their Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) game played at SAIT Arena.
SAIT falls to 1-6 on the season while the Queens improve to 5-1.
Pyper Alexander scored SAIT's lone goal in the second period on a nifty deflection of a Tamryn Ward pass. Red Deer scored once in the first and second periods before scoring three in the final 20 minutes of play to extend their lead and seal the win.
Mary Hirsch scored three times and added an assist for the Queens to be named her team's Player of the Game.
The teams will wrap up their weekend set Saturday night in Red Deer. Alexander took the honour for SAIT.
