NAIT Ooks Defeat RDP Queens in a Shootout
Friday night was the host of a battle between the top two teams in the league as the NAIT Ooks hosted the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens at the NAIT Arena. In a close battle, NAIT came out on top, winning 1-0 in a shootout.
The first period was tightly checked. NAIT applied most of the pressure outshooting RDP 12-4, but RDP goaltender Izy Palumbo stood tall and kept the game tied at 0.
0-0 after one.
Not much changed between this and the second. RDP was pressing early, but NAIT goalie Havana Batke stood tall. The game was still scoreless despite each team getting more chances. The goalies were on in this one.
0-0 after two.
The third period was very similar to the first two. NAIT took a late penalty for holding the stick, but RDP could not capitalize, and we went into overtime.
0-0 after 3.
After a four on four overtime and a three on three overtime, it was still scoreless. It took Bre Martin of NAIT to score the shootout's only goal and give NAIT the 1-0 lead. Players of the games were both teams' goalies as they were nearly perfect all game.
Final score 1-0 in a shootout for NAIT.
Both teams look to have a strong rest of the season as they get ready for playoffs.
