Broncos Women's Hockey Program Falls to RDP in Game 2 of ACAC Finals

After a close 2-1 loss in Red Deer on Friday night, the Olds College Broncos Women's Hockey program was back in action on Sunday as they hoped to tie the series against the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens at one game a piece.
The first 18 minutes of the first period proved to be a defensive matchup with both teams exchanging blows and goaltenders Cienna Kinghorn of the Olds College Broncos and Madison Fox of the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens shutting the door on their respective opponents. Things would change in the final three minutes of the first period however as the Broncos drew a "Too Many Players on the Ice" penalty with 2:51 left in the period. 1:26 into the Queens power play, Kiera Mulder of Terrace, BC netted the game's opening goal on an assist from Jordyn McLaughlin of Rocky Mountain House, AB. The Queens scored their second goal of the period 59 seconds later from the stick of Jailyn Bablitz of Valleyview, AB on assists from Brooke Skrypichayko (Glendon, AB) and Mary Hirsch (Calgary, AB).
The second period opened very similarly to the first with each teams respective goaltenders keeping the game close despite each seeing their fair share of shots. The tides would begin to sway back in the Queens favour however with 8:49 left in the second period on a "Contact to the Head" penalty on the Broncos Hailey Hoogkamp. 49 seconds into the Red Deer power play, Alli Soyko of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan scored the Queens second power play goal of the night on Mary Hirsch Jordan McLaughlin's second assists of the contest. The Queens scored the games final goal of the evening on an unassisted goal by Monica Bowtell (Wainwright, AB) with 1:30 left in the second period.
