OLDS, Alta. - Reauna Blight had herself a night, scoring twice in regulation before adding the shootout winner as the SAIT Trojans defeated the Olds College Broncos 5-4 before a boisterous crowd at the Town of Olds Sportsplex in the season opener for both sides.

In addition to Blight's Player of the Game efforts for the Trojans (1-0-0), captain Pyper Alexander and Asha Kailey also scored, while Ali Kieran turned in an incredible night in goal with 47 saves.

For the Broncos (0-0-1), Player of the Game Keera Tiringer scored twice, while reigning ACAC Rookie of the Year Hailey Hoogkamp also scored twice and Jesse Jack had two assists. In goal, Cienna Kinghorn turned in a solid performance with 27 saves.

Tiringer had the Broncos charging out of the gates early, giving Olds College a 1-0 lead just 40 seconds in. However, Blight answered while shorthanded midway through the period to send the teams to the intermission tied 1-1 through 20 minutes.

Tiringer and Blight again exchanged goals in the second period, though Alexander put the Trojans up 3-2 just 47 seconds after Blight's marker, with SAIT maintaining the lead through the second intermission.

Kailey doubled SAIT's lead early in the third, but the Broncos stuck around, and were eventually rewarded when Hoogkamp converted a rebound with five minutes left to bring Olds College back within one.

Then, with Kinghorn pulled in favour of an extra skater, the Broncos put up a sustained push in the SAIT zone, with the puck eventually coming back to Hoogkamp at the top of the crease to tie the game with 1:07 to go.

SAIT had the best chance to close it out in double overtime as Alexander rung a shot off both the post and crossbar, only for Blight to put the Trojans ahead to stay in the fourth round of shooters.

The Trojans will host their home opener next Friday against the NAIT Ooks at Winsport Arena B, while the Broncos will hit the road for the first time to take on the Lakeland College Rustlers.
