Alexander, Ward lead Trojans past Rustlers

CALGARY, ALTA., (Feb. 24, 2023) - Tamryn Ward and Pyper Alexander had themselves a night.

The pair of forwards each scored twice and added an assist as their SAIT Trojans women's hockey team defeated the visiting Lakeland College Rustlers 7-1 in their Friday night Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) contest played inside Winsport Arena.

Friday's victory for the Trojans was their first since Nov. 17, 2022 - snapping a 13-game losing streak. SAIT moves to 3-15 on the season, while the Rustlers drop to 9-7.

The teams will play again Saturday night at 5:45pm at Winsport, and then once more Sunday afternoon at 1:30pm to close out the regular season.

Reuana Blight also scored twice while Elisa Erhardt added a solo marker to round out the scoring.

Lakeland's lone goal came off the stick of Mackenzie Stafford, ruining the shutout bid for Trojans goalie Kaylin Schellenberg with less than four minutes left in the game.

Aside from the goal, Schellenberg turned aside 50 other shots by the Rustlers.
